Mike looked down at his hand. The black box was gone. Instead, he was holding a small, charred piece of a Dungeons & Dragons character sheet. It was a drawing of a Mind Flayer, but the ink was still wet, and it felt strangely warm to the touch.
: Mike, Will, Joyce, Hopper, Bob, and Dr. Owens are trapped inside the lab as Demodogs swarm the building.

The boys watched, paralyzed, as the episode played out around them in terrifying three-dimensional reality. They saw Jonathan frantically checking the locks while Nancy stood guard with a poker, her knuckles white. They felt the heat from the heaters rising, the temperature climbing to an unbearable degree.
“We’ve already seen enough,” Mike whispered, his heart finally slowing down.
Eleven roared. It was a sound of pure grief and untapped power. The rift began to shrink. The shadow-monster lashed out, but she didn't flinch. She pulled from the memories of the lab, the anger of her "sister" Kali, and the love of the boy waiting for her in the hallway. With a final, explosive surge of energy, the gate slammed shut.
