The resulting duel is one of the most cinematic in the series:

The episode begins with a "false flag" operation. To win over the people of Mandalore, Maul has his criminal allies—the and Black Sun —attack the capital city of Sundari. While Duchess Satine struggles to maintain her pacifist ideals, Pre Vizsla and the Death Watch swoop in to "save" the day.

The episode ends on a dark note. While many Mandalorians honor the code and follow Maul, refuses to accept an "outsider" as ruler, leading her faction to break away. This set the stage for years of Mandalorian civil unrest and eventually the legendary "Siege of Mandalore".
