While scouting for Stargate components, Sheppard’s team arrives on a planet where the villagers worship an unassuming man named Lucius. Despite his abrasive and annoying personality, even the stoic members of the Atlantis team—including Dr. Weir, Dr. Beckett, and Rodney McKay—quickly fall under his spell after he arrives at the city.

The "charm" is eventually revealed to be the result of a Lucius consumes and secretes through his skin. John Sheppard and Carson Beckett (who is eventually cured by a cold/sneezing) must find a way to break the city's addiction to Lucius before he takes permanent control.
