Black holes no longer crushed ships into atoms; they acted as high-speed gravitational slingshots that smelled faintly of lavender. Jace looked at his own shields

"Stop it," the pirate messaged over the open channel. "That feels like a spa treatment. I'm trying to meditate." He pulled the trigger on his pulse lasers

"Engaging?" the pilot replied, sounding remarkably relaxed. "The hull is at 100%, Jace. It’s always at 100%. The lasers just… tickle now."
